How else can I help at Christmas?

A survey undertaken by The Royal Voluntary Service (2012) revealed that 64% of respondents

would be willing to accept an older person into their home on Christmas Day. Even if this

isn't possible for you, the following organisations provide opportunities to make a difference

this year:

1. Community Christmas: http://communitychristmas.org.uk/.

Resources and ideas to organise or support a Christmas event in your local community.

2. The Royal Voluntary Service: http://www.royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk/.

Contains links to opportunities in your local area.

3. Good Neighbours Schemes:

http://www.royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk/get-help/services-we-provide/practical-support-at-home/good-neighbours. Technically part of The Royal Voluntary Service, these local groups provide activities, friendship and practical support for older people all year round. Your local group may be putting on an event at Christmas - or you could host one yourself!

4. Crisis at Christmas: http://www.crisis.org.uk/pages/volunteer-crisis-christmas.html. Based in London, Newcastle and Edinburgh, Crisis provides an annual opportunity for volunteers to give their time at centres for homeless guests of all ages.

5. Friends of the Elderly: http://www.fote.org.uk/xmas/. Allows you to donate towards the cost of a Christmas gift or place at a day centre.
